Celebration of Bioethics Day

World Bioethics Day has been celebrated by Nepal unit of international chair in bioethics (in collaboration of Students' Wing of Bioethics - BPKIHS by organising various competitive events (being organised since last June). 

The program of World Bioethics Day- 2024 has been concluded this Friday in B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan with the theme of 'Non-discrimination and non-stigmatisation'. The best of national events of Art poster (Sachi Pokharel, People's Dental College, Kathmandu), Photography (Kajal Yadav, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Lalitpur), Short movies ( Laxmi Rauniyar team, Birat Medical College, Biratnagar), Poem (Ujama Hussain, Janaki Medical College, Janakpur), and Research paper (Richa Koirala, BPKIHS, Dharan) have been submitted to the International events of Global Network of Bio-ethics. 

Chairing the concluding session, Prof. Dr. Dhana Ratna Shakya (Head, Nepal Unit of Bio-ethics and Department of Psychiatry, BPKIHS) highlighted the importance and relevance of the theme in the context of Nepal where there are prevalent discriminations and stigma in many respects. Prof. Shakya expressed that the theme has called us to review our situations and to work in the line of minimising and discouraging discrimination and stigma in the direction of creating egalitarian society. In the program conducted by students Manashwi Acharya and Rajani Neupane, executive member of the unit Dr. Ashok Ayer spoke about the principles of Bioethics and the theme. Student representative Akshata Wasti presented a seminar on the Article 11 of 'Universal Declaration of Bio-ethics and Human Rights' (i.e. the theme). Prof. Dr. Rita Khadka put her views from judge panel and Prashant Sapkota from Bioethics Students' Wing, BPKIHS. The coordinator of Nepal programs, Prof. Dr. Dhana Ratna Shakya expressed the hope of fostering egalitarian society by nurturing the awareness and translation of these ethical principles into practice.
