Every Saturday, the Bhaktapur Durbar area is bustling with domestic tourists, and this past Saturday was no exception. The area was especially crowded as the Pokhara Avengers team, participating in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), visited Bhaktapur. Led by Nepali cricket player Kushal Bhurtel, the team included both domestic and international players, along with representatives—26 members in total, featuring players from Nepal, India, and other countries. The team arrived in Bhaktapur at 5 PM and explored key cultural landmarks, including the Bhaktapur Durbar area and the five-story temple (Nyatapola). The team received a grand welcome at the Khauma entrance gate of the Durbar area. Traditional Dhime bands accompanied the procession, creating a festive atmosphere. The players and technical staff wore Nepali caps and were treated to local hospitality, including food. The welcome procession paraded through Bhaktapur, drawing crowds of domestic and foreign tourists alike. Nepali cricket star Kushal Bhurtel was a major attraction, with many fans taking photos and autographs. Some enthusiastic young fans even asked him to sign on their clothing. The hour-long visit saw a mix of sports enthusiasts, cultural admirers, and curious onlookers enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Bhaktapur Municipality reports that every Saturday, the city attracts 100,000 to 150,000 domestic tourists, with over 1,000 foreign visitors recorded daily. The entry fee collected from foreign tourists contributes to maintaining the city's cultural heritage. The Pokhara Avengers’ visit was organized by Nepal Eco Panel to promote the upcoming Bhaktapur Festival 2081, scheduled to take place from Mangsir 27 to Poush 2. Nepal Eco Panel CEO Engineer Krishna Bhakta Duwal emphasized that the visit aimed to introduce Bhaktapur’s rich history and cultural heritage to the world while giving the players an opportunity to experience Nepal’s traditions firsthand. The team was honored with a traditional dinner featuring dishes like juju dhau (curd). Pokhara Avengers proprietor Manobal Shrestha expressed his gratitude for the warm reception in Bhaktapur, hoping for similar love and support in the future. The event successfully combined sports and culture, fostering a deeper connection between Bhaktapur’s heritage and the wider world.
