Assurance to transform Kathmandu

Kathmandu  : Stakeholders today stressed on the need to uplift women by avoiding backbiting and enmity between themselves for their own development as well as for transformation of Kathmandu. Speaking at a program  ‘Let’s women win campaign’ in local level election jointly organised by Sankalpa and Women NGO Federation, stakeholders said that women should coordinate with eachother to allow oneself win this election.
Speaking at the program, Rajnee Thapa, nominee of Mayor of Tokha Municipality from Nepali Congress Party said that women should avoid backbiting other women. She said that rather each women in significant position should create enrivornment for other women to step forward in the same direction where women could take decisions for the betterment of their municipality. ‘We are often alleged of being hinderance for other women. If a mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and other women in the family join hands for each others development and prosperity, women are unstoppable,’ Thapa said. She also urged all voters to cast their votes to women not as women but only after analysing their vision and agenda.
She further said that if she gets victory in the election, she will design programms against violence against women and women empowerment.
Srijana Singh, nominee for Mayor from Nepali Congress for Kathmandu Metropolitican City(KMC) said that she was willing to develop Kathmandu as the city where women would feel safe at anytime anywhere within the city. ‘Working women are forced to leave their jobs after having children because of lack of childcare homes. Therefore childcare homes would be established soon,’ she added.
Congress leader Singh further said that various agendas such as youths would be encouraged in sports, tourism sector and business sectors would be developed, rising trend of Nepalese vying for foreign employment would be minimised by generating employment in the country and many other would be kept in priority in Kathmandu if she wins this election.
Similarly, Samikshya Baskota, a nominee of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City from Bibekshil Sajha Party complained that the metropolitan city could not change from leadership of senior political parties. She said that her party’s aim was to minimise the violence against women in public transport, remedy to sewage problem, protection of public toilet, stone spouts and heritages among others.
Sunita Dangol, a nominee of deputy mayor of KMC from CPN-UML said that new generation should take leadership by receiving blessings from seniors.
Binita Magaiya, a nominee for deputy mayor of KMC from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) said that there should be more women in politics for equality. Similarly, other speakers such as Kriti Tuladhar, a nominee of deputy Mayor of KMC from Bibekshil Sajha,Swarnim Shakya, a deputy Mayor nominee from RPP also delivered speech during the program.
Dr Sashi Adhikari, chairperson, Women NGO Federation said that the organization has been organizing various programs to increase the number of women representatives by creating environment for victory of women candidates during this local election.
