Learning through interaction during Covid-19 Pandemic: Making the best use of available time through online interactive sessions with the experience architects. Nepal Engineering College (nec), Department of Architecture initiated Web Series. The first series started 28th June 2020 to 25th July 2020, with excellent presentations by experienced expertise. The lecture series became an instant hit among the architecture students. The active attendance in the Series 1.0 was so overwhelming that some participants did not get entry permit due to space limit. The experienced architects have kindly accepted nec request to interact with the architecture students.
Now, again nec, Department of Architecture has conducted “Web lecture series 2.0” for the student of architecture. Web Lecture Series, on 21st August 2020, had been conducted on “Heritage to, for and by the people” by Ar. Lumanti Joshi from LUMANTI Support Group for Shelter. She had focused on living heritage, tangible and intangible heritage along with traditional construction techniques. She had added “The Kathmandu Valley has more than 50 satellite traditional towns which, in past, served as the service centers for the three core cities of the Valley. For many years, these were the hub for agriculture, culture and heritage. Each one had their own specialty, own culture, tradition, rituals, which gave them their identity. For instance, Khokhona was and is still famous for the mustard oil, Siddhipur for straw mats, Kirtipur for masonry work and Lubhu for handlooms. But over the period of time, the haphazard urbanization from the three core cities, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur started gradually seeping into these traditional towns, affecting their heritage, culture and their way of lives.”
She had also talked on how to retain those heritage settlements. The presentation is very useful for all architecture students and professionals working in vernacular architecture and heritage conservation within the community.
